Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

As the bouquet sails through the air, this album is the ideal Italian wedding accompaniment. It's just as you'd picture the scene after watching The Godfather--the flowers, picket fences, and upon the bandstand a crooner-for-hire warbling through Dean Martin classics ("On An Evening In Roma"), and other Italian-American swooners. The songs on this album capture perfectly the swingin' garden-party atmosphere. Basil Poledouris' score blends unnoticeably to begin with: "Truckers On Time", "Going To Gina", and "Wedding Reception" enjoy the ensemble feel of accordion, piano, and drumset. Toward the end of the album, though, a couple of dramatic cues ("Johnny's Funeral" and "Death Is OK By Me") hint at the powerhouse composer of Starship Troopers. These tracks seem out of place, like an unprecedented fight between Groom and Best Man. But once past, the twirling on the grass continues in fine Nino ("Godfather") Rota style. --Paul Tonks

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly entertaining and uplifting, 9 May 2001

If you are looking for an album with a timeless feel and great tracks, look no further. Mickey Blue Eyes is a mildly entertaining movie, but make no mistake, the soundtrack is absolutely top-class. The album is a pleasing mix of some of the best latino tracks of the last few decades. It begins with great aplomb and verve with the top-tapping, Mambo Italiano sung with great gusto by Rosemary Clooney. The promising start continues with another favourite Luna Mezze Mare. Although i cant follow Italian (or was it spanish) i cant tire of listening to this track. The songs are interespersed with some instrumental pieces used in the movie (e.g. Truckers in Time). Even these pieces are very good and keep you interested in the offerings to come. The highlight of the album is the 'On an Evening in Roma ' sung by the greatest (alas not acknowledged ) crooner of them all, Dean Martin. His easy and effortless singing style, coupled with a mellifluous voice make this song a great joy to listen time and again. Through this album, i was introduced to another great performer Louis Prima and his offering 'Just a Gigolo' is another toe-tapping, hip-hop, bee-bop number. It does not matter whether you have seen the movie or not, but this album is an absolute must-buy.
